Autoimmune Disease Ideas

Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) is a form of arthritis — that causes inflammation, pain, and stiffness mainly in the spinal joints. The cause of ankylosing spondylitis is unknown, but AS is thought to be a disease of the immune system. It is believed that increased levels of an active form of a protein in the immune system called tumor necrosis factor (TNF) play a role in the inflammation associated with AS.  Genetic factors seem to contribute to the development of ankylosing spondylitis. People who have a gene called HLA-B27 are at an increased risk of developing the condition. Additionally, certain infections may also be related.

Idea analysis of the scientific literature dealing with ankylosing spondylitis identified two important forms of ideas.  These are called incidental and essential.  An incidental idea is one involving a pair of informative terms, occurring in a sentence, where the authors focused on other ideas as the subject of the sentence.  An essential idea is one where the authors' use the combination as an important part of the sentence.

Incidental ideas often are the result of constructing lists of conditions in a sentence.  The software is designed to capture all (in excess of 95%) of the ideas presented by the authors.
